Skyterra Wellness

Skyterra Wellness

I had the experience of a lifetime when I sent myself to Skyterra Wellness retreat in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. I immersed myself in focused and structured selfcare regimes, ate healthy, well-balanced meals and focused on connecting with myself. Skyterra let me unplug and reconnect with the person I want to be. I learned about food, health, mindfulness, wellness and absorbed the love and kindness from the staff and my fellow guests.

Searching for “wellness retreats” you will find places like The Pearl Laguna, Hilton Head Health, and Miraval. After carefully reading the reviews, Skyterra seemed to fit the mold for what I was looking for. With a flexible schedule, where you can create your day exactly how you want, plenty of seminars and activities to choose from, dietary preferences, massage services, and down time, Skyterra had exactly what I was looking for!

From the beginning, Anne and Teresa (the guest services director and general manager) were extremely kind and helpful.  From coordinating my airport pick-up to scheduling massages, extra activities, they helped me with everything! The people I met and connected with on this trip were all one of a kind. Most of which, like me, needed to escape and relax in the serene environment Skyterra offers. I made connections with new friends that will last a lifetime! Many guests were repeat visitors to Skyterra and they even have alumni weeks.

Here are some highlights from my trip:

- Food:

Every meal was prepared by Skyterra’s fantastic chef and culinary team. During breakfast, there was a daily menu with options that you could personalize for the day. If you needed extra protein, no problem, dietary restrictions were met whether you were vegan or had a nut allergy. There wasn’t anything they couldn’t accommodate! Eating extremely healthy never tasted so good. There was never a time that I felt like I didn’t eat enough, either. There were even culinary demonstrations in the daily activity schedule that were very informative and gave me plenty of ideas that I now implement into my cooking routine at home.

- Accommodations: The cabins at Skyterra were incredible! They were updated, quaint and luxurious at the same time. Most of them are set up like a duplex, with a neighbor just on the other side of your front porch. There were even cabins that allowed pets, for those staying for prolonged periods of time, this was greatly accommodating. Here are some pictures of my cabin from the outside and a sneak peek inside. (The large soaking tub was my favorite feature!)

My home for the week!

- Hiking:  Some afternoons, I would take some free time to walk around the grounds on the paved paths and walk to the waterfall. There, I would listen to music, podcasts, anything peaceful as the tranquility of the scenery was unmatched!

- Daily Activity Schedule: Here is a sample of the daily activities offered at Skyterra. Favorites of mine were: Self-care values, Strength training, connect (yoga and stretching) and creative arts. Skyterra also has a pool now! When I visited in springtime 2021, the pool was still under construction. I can’t wait to visit again and take advantage of using the pool for water fitness activities.

The gym at Skyterra was equipped with brand new equipment with a wide variety of exercise options, so you would never get bored! Most days, the trainers would even take portions of the workouts outside.

This wellness retreat was extremely special for me. I had built up frustrations, unhealthy habits, and a longing to spend some quality alone time after enduring 2020. There were many people there for the same reason as me and some who were healing from extreme tragedy, loss and significant life transitions. Skyterra, thank you for all the knowledge, peace, and new friendships. Until next time!
